  • About me

I am Monique Dolbin and I have a passion for capturing beautiful, natural images for my clients. I enjoy working with everyone from young professionals, couples, families, to children. I am located in the DC area (Arlington VA to be exact), but I also spend a great deal of time in Central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, York, and New Cumberland). If the images in my blog and my shooting style resonate with you, I hope that we'll be able to work together soon!

Let me introduce…. Christina

Continuing with my introductions, it’s only fitting that I feature my dear friend, Christina. After my first shoot with Sofia, I was introduced to Christina and we hit it off. It was so inspiring to see how much Christina loved my photos and how the shoot lifted her spirits. After hearing Christina’s reactions, I knew I was hooked and needed to find a way to do photography full time.

Since then, Christina and I have grown to be close friends and she’s my go-to girl when it comes to testing out a new lens, practicing my techniques, being my assistant at a photo shoot, helping me to honor a fallen soldier, or when I simply just need a friend to vent to or laugh with. It’s fair to say this past year most certainly would not be the same without her by my side.

After you check out some of the pictures below, I’m sure you won’t be surprised as to why many of my facebook friends and family refer to her as the “pretty, brown hair girl that you always take pictures of”. Enjoy them and don’t worry… I’m sure she’ll make plenty of more blog appearances in the future!

Let me introduce… Sofia

I think the best way to kick start my bog would be to introduce you to some of the individuals who have had the biggest impact on my photography across the past year.

My very first model was Sofia. She was the perfect person for me to work with as she’s comfortable and experienced on the other side of the camera and couldn’t look bad at any angle if she tried. It was so helpful to be able to learn how to work my Nikon D90 with patient and helpful Sofia to practice on.

If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you’ll notice that Sofia has spent quite a bit of time with me over the past year. My how much can happen in a years time!! I first photographed a single girl who was falling in love and I had the pleasure of watching that happen. I was even able to photograph Frank and Sofia together. When they found out that Sofia was expecting, you better believe I was there to capture that as well. Now that little Sylar has joined us, I absolutely cannot wait to capture the next chapter in Frank and Sofia’s lives together. I have a feeling this will not be the last time you see them featured on my blog.:)

Frank and Sofia – The Proposal – Washington, DC » Life In Focus Photography Blog - […] was a perfect spring night that was already special from the start as it was my beautiful friend, Sofia’s birthday. These two hold a special place in my heart as I’m dear friends with both of them […]

And so it begins…

I find it fitting that I am sitting here writing my first blog post as I’m two weeks away from the one year anniversary of when I purchased my Nikon DSLR and took my first steps towards my photography career.

The last year has been an amazing journey where I’ve learned quite a bit about myself, business, and of course photography. There have been some pleasant surprises and the amount of support that I’ve received along the way from friends, colleagues, and acquaintances has continued to remind me that I’m on the right path.  While I know I have a long way to go, I remain inspired by the quote: “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life“.

When it comes to photography, I find great joy in capturing the essence of my subjects in a photo and that is why I’m drawn to portrait photography. Families, children, couples, babies, and maternity are my primary focuses but I’m open to exploring new venues of photography, especially weddings.
