  • About me

I am Monique Dolbin and I have a passion for capturing beautiful, natural images for my clients. I enjoy working with everyone from young professionals, couples, families, to children. I am located in the DC area (Arlington VA to be exact), but I also spend a great deal of time in Central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, York, and New Cumberland). If the images in my blog and my shooting style resonate with you, I hope that we'll be able to work together soon!

Dan and Sarah’s Wedding – Governor Calvert House – Annapolis Wedding Photographer

Dan and Sarah will always hold a special place in my heart as they are two of my biggest fans and earliest supporters. It was such an honor to be a part of their big day and I hope these photos help them relive all of the fun, happiness, and love that was present on their wedding day.

Planning a wedding is no easy feat but working with Sarah was a true joy. Not only was my focus on making sure that they had the most amazing photos, but to ensure that they day ran as smoothly as possible. Of course, I can’t forget to mention my photography team, Kelly and Chad, who both helped tremendously.

We were a bit unsure as to what to expect from the weather, as the day before it had been raining cats & dogs. However, there was no doubt when the sun came up that it was going to be an absolutely beautiful day. Their ceremony was held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church and the reception was just a short walk away at the Governor Calvert House which is part of the Historic Inns of Annapolis.

For those who have been following my blog for a while now, you will probably recognize Dan and Sarah from their cherry blossom engagement photo session. Of course it’s only fitting that we managed to find some cherry blossoms in Annapolis on their wedding day. I figured it’d be a great way to kick off their wedding blog post.

If you like the photos, don’t be shy… leave a comment below, sign up for updates, or like my Facebook page to see my newest work.

I made sure to hop in for a photo with the happy couple and snag one with my photo crew – Kelly and Chad. Thank you both so much for your help!

And last, but certainly not least, the traditional Dickinson alumni photo with the red adirondack chairs. Maybe this fine showing of alums will make it into the Dickinsonian…. 😉

Laura and Ryan – Dupont Engagement Session – Washington DC

I love a challenge. However, I bet when you see the images in this blog post I’m sure you’ll be thinking to yourself… what is so hard about photographing two beautiful people like Laura and Ryan? Well, not everyone is always excited about having their photos taken… and some are more nervous than others. That initial nervousness is what makes the feedback from clients all the more special to me. Words like ‘wow I can’t believe how comfortable you made us feel’ and ‘that wasn’t as terrible as I was afraid of’ really just warm my heart. 😉

I’ve known Laura for a couple of years as we have a few mutual friends who are just amazing. Because of that, we’ve crossed paths many times over the years. When I first got into photography I told her that I wanted to photograph her one day and I meant it. On a crisp April morning in DC I was lucky enough to photograph her and the lucky man who captured this very intelligent and beautiful woman’s heart.

We started the session at Bistrot du Coin in Dupont as that was the location of one of their first dates and it was reasonably acceptable to start drinking some wine. The staff was amazing and so accommodating that we decided to return later for mimosas and brunch. After that we decided to explore the Dupont neighborhood and then we ended up in Dupont circle. The sun was out and shining but it was still a bit chilly as spring didn’t quite reach us until a few weeks later. However, Laura and Ryan were very good sports about the temperature.

I truly had a lovely time photographing them and getting to know them as a couple more. We bonded over travel stories and all of the places we have been and would like to go. However, I don’t think any previous adventures will compare to when these two world travelers get married in Charleston in October. I wish them both nothing but a lifetime of happiness and passports full of stamps!

Mary and David – Engagement Session – Alexandria VA

“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s gonna be really hard. We’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day
” – The Notebook

I met Mary through a mutual friend and I later met David at a wedding that we all attended last year. It was clear then and every time I’ve been around them just how much they care about each other. It may sound cheesy but it seriously melts my heart when I see pure love in the eyes of my clients.

Mary and David wanted an engagement session that was unique and personal to them. So we tapped into Mary’s Irish roots and decided to do the session inside of Daniel O’Connell’s Pub in Old Town. It was such a fun location and the staff was more than accommodating to us. The brunch we had after our session was delicious so please go and check out this spot!

I was great to get to know them both even better and to let them get more comfortable in front of the camera. I absolutely cannot wait for their wedding later this year in Washington, DC.

Cheers & Enjoy!

Vanessa’s Maternity Photos – Washington DC

“A mother’s joy begins when new life is stirring inside… when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time, and a playful kick reminds her that she is never alone.” -Unknown

I’ve known Vanessa for nearly 3 years now and I’ve always known she was beautiful on the inside and out, as it’s perfectly clear to everyone she meets. I liked Vanessa the day that I met her because I found out that she’s a former cheerleader (10 best years of my youth)… but more importantly a former PRO cheerleader (Redskins AND Ravens… GO SKINS)!

However, Vanessa’s journey over the past year allowed me to admire more than just her talent. It allowed me to see Vanessa as the strong and mature woman that she is and the amazing mother that her daughter is blessed to have. I was honored to watch her grow as a person as well as to see her close friends surround her with the love and support that she deserved.

Not only was I able to take some beautiful maternity shots of Vanessa, but I was also able to meet Sienna on her first day in this crazy world of ours. I snapped a few pictures for them to cherish but I will always hold those first moments with Sienna and Vanessa in my heart. I couldn’t be more proud to have Sienna as part of Auntie Mo’s bunch!

As you will probably guess, these photos are from a couple months ago as I took them in December before a few weeks of travel. Given that Vanessa and Sienna are preparing to head to Florida shortly, I thought it’s be an appropriate time to share these images with the world. While I’m going to miss them deeply in DC, I can’t be anything but grateful that they’ve been a part of my life and that I have yet another reason to visit Florida as much as possible.

World… say hello to the precious Sienna.

Kirsten & Dan’s Charlottesville VA Wedding

If their names ring a bell, that’s probably because you remember Kirsten and Dan’s engagement session which you can see again here.

Their big day was a beautiful day in December just before Christmas. The ceremony and reception took place at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and we were able to hop over to the UVA campus for their portraits. It was so easy to create beautiful images of this lovely couple as you could tell they were just so madly in love because they were grinning ear to ear the whole day. I wish them both a lifetime of happiness and I hope these photos help them relive this day over and over again.

Also, huge thanks to my second shooter and lighting guru, Becca, for her help!
